how to diffuse oils on the go

When you find the oils you can’t live without, there is temptation to take your diffuser everywhere you go. Oils help counteract the smells around us, like chemicals in stores, stale airplane air, strong cleaners or even overpowering smells on other people. We can do our best to keep our home environment toxic free and environmentally friendly, but we don’t and can’t live in a bubble. I have some awesome tricks that help me “diffuse on the go” that I want to share. Of course you can always apply a few drops to your hands, rub them together, cup and inhale. But what if you don’t have time to stop and smell the oils? Here are my favorite ways to diffuse oils when I’m on the go:

  1. Apply oils like you would apply perfume. Your wrists, inside of your elbows, and behind your ears are great places to be able to enjoy your oils and experience the benefits throughout the day. It won’t last forever, but it will help to quickly smell your wrist to remind you to take a deep breath.

  2. Apply to your clothing! This is so easy in the winter, when scarves and turtlenecks are necessary. I apply a few drops of my favorite oil to my blanket scarf or on the inside collar of my shirt. When I need to, I can lift clothing to my nose, close my eyes and inhale deeply. This is super helpful if I am unable to escape an unpleasant environment.

  3. Use your hair as a diffuser. This is probably my favorite way to apply oils. Every time I brush my hair or run my hands through my hair, I add a few drops of essential oil. Lately, I have been obsessed with black spruce. Then, throughout the day when my hair swings or I inadvertently touch it, I smell the oils. Smells you love will calm your mood, ground you and help you to smile in the midst of hard transitions or stressful moments.
