If there is ever a time that anxiety creeps in like an ugly monster, it’s when I travel. Specifically, the second I buckle my seat belt on the tarmac. All rational thoughts escape my head and are replaced with the absolute worst case scenarios. Who needs a movie when the drama is playing out inside my mind.

Despite the pandemonium inside my mind, I still travel, several times a month and all over the world. I love the destination. However, it is important to me that I love the process too. I can’t say I love it yet, but there are things that help me a ton! Here are three ways to use oils for travel anxiety:

  1. INTERNAL: I know my body needs to calm the heck down — so I support that by taking dōTERRA’s adaptiv essential oils, Lavender, Coriander, Wild Orange, and Fennel along with Sceletium, GABA, and Ahiflower (R). I notice a marked difference in my mental clarity. Basically, instead of freaking out, I can pause, breathe and even relax on the flight.

  2. AROMATIC: This supplement supports my body internally, but I also need to support aromatically. When scent enters your olfactory system (your nose) and triggers your limbic system (deep in the center of your brain), you can quickly affect your mindset. I take 2 drops of adaptiv essential oils in my hands, rub them together and then cup my hands in front of my nose and take deep breaths. The difference is almost immediate! Other popular oils that help to relax you both body and mind are copaiba, wild orange, serenity and balance.

  3. SKIN: Keep in mind when traveling that not everyone will love your oils as much as you do. Crazy, I know. It’s helpful to apply your oils to the bottoms of your feet before you get on the plane. Because your oils will absorb quickly into your skin, most that you apply will mellow out in potency before your flight — but will be in your blood stream supporting your body and mind. It’s helpful to get ahead of the anxiety, rather than to wait for that seat belt to buckle to try to squash the monster.

Peaceful flying, friends.
